This pilot will take place in classrooms and communities across Canada, in urban and rural locations, both on and off reserve during 2025. The pilot will provide you with an opportunity to use the resources associated with the program and impact the financial capability of Indigenous youth in your community. During the pilot we will be sharing FREE sets of the colourful and engaging Student Guide, activity plans for Caregivers that interact with Indigenous youth, and unique easy to use lesson plans for Teachers for each of the fifteen modules in the student guide. Teachers and Caregivers will also be offered the opportunity to participate in a short virtual orientation – to get the most of the resource and the pilot. All participants will also be encouraged to provide feedback on the pilot in both an online survey, and a series of virtual Town Halls.

We are excited to announce the launch of this new, unique resource and we want you to be part of this experience! We recognize the important role that Truth and Reconciliation plays in our country and this resource is but one step in our journey. The program is part of CFEE’s commitment in our new Strategic Plan that includes a priority focus on resource development for Indigenous Peoples based on our Mission “To help Canadians undertake economic decisions and actions with confidence and competence.”

The adaptation of this resource integrates Indigenous culture and tradition, including content based on the Seven Sacred Teachings, to provide a pathway that is relevant and respectful of Indigenous approaches for Indigenous Youth, their families and communities. The resource is based on the concepts covered in Money and Youth, a Student Guide to Financial Literacy that has had over 750,000 copies distributed since its initial publication in the mid-nineties. Indigenous Peoples’ Money & Youth carefully builds on the financial concepts of the original version and incorporates traditional teachings, relevant and useful facts, and ongoing reflections to empower Indigenous youth as they take control of their future. The project was guided by Damon Johnston, and with adaptation provided by Vanessa Everett and a team of reviewers from indigenous communities throughout Manitoba and Alberta, as well as allies in this effort from CFEE’s expert team of curriculum and resources development professionals.

  • Participation in the Pilot is FREE, and is available to schools, classrooms and community-based organizations that have a focus on Indigenous youth.
  • Participants in the pilots can be from any province or territory in Canada and may include band or First Nations, Innuit or Metis-operated schools or community-based organizations. They can also include schools or classrooms operated as part of the publicly funded system in any province or territory.

    • participate in an online virtual orientation.
    • cover at least three modules in the program.
    • and provide feedback via online surveys and/or the virtual town halls, to the best of their abilities. We would also encourage pilots to provide pictures, testimonials and content that can be used to celebrate the pilot through traditional media and social media channels coordinated by CFEE and its partners.
      • Participants in the online surveys will have the opportunity to participate in a series of draws for a prize, as a token of our appreciation. There will be four draws made at the end of the December 2025, for each one of the following groups:
        • Youth – one prize of a $50 gift card from Tim Horton’s drawn from a pool of each submission to the online survey
